College Student Wins At ShowBoats Design Awards

On June 21, 2013 at the ShowBoats Design Awards, the highly distinguished “Young Designer of the Year Award” went to architectural design student Stefano Inglese. The finalists were judged by an illustrious group of industry professionals and yacht owners. Inglese won for his Project “Granturismo”. Oceanco has teamed up with the ShowBoats Design Awards by sponsoring the highly distinguished “Young Designer of the Year Award.”

The design of the yacht was inspired by the silhouette of the Granturismo sports car.

“The idea was to deliver the same feelings one has when traveling en plain air in a sports car,” Inglese said.

The design met with the hypothetical owner’s love of ‘masculine and stylishly edgy’ design and the interior layout satisfied the ‘client’s’ many demands.

“The boat is made to communicate to the non-rational side of the human soul… placing human emotions and the joy of life in first place,” Inglese said.

Eco-Friendly Boat Soars Above Water

wFoil 18 Albatross can fly over water.

With the use of hydrofoils and speed, the wFoil soars above the water bypassing tough waters with a promised speed of up to 90 mph. This top speed is made possible by the hydrofoils carbon composite that allows the boat to  stay drag consistent throughout the speed range.

So how exactly does it work? The hydrofoils create a lift underwater due to the generation of different pressure conditions above and below it.

Did I mention it’s eco-friendly? The hydrofoils allow the vessel to cut down fuel  consumption. Maintaining a speed of 46 mph, the boat uses only 2 gallons of fuel an hour.

Whether you want a feel a rush in the water or you want to sail, the wFoil gives you the best of both worlds. The boat has a detachable engine and an added sail and guess what? It only takes about 10 minutes to change between the two.

Other Tidbits:

- The wFoil 18 can seat two people.

- The hull of the boat is made up of mountain spruce wood strips mounted on the aircraft plywood frame.

- Production will begin when the project is funded.
