Wakeboarding has been added to the International Olympic Committee along with 7 other sports for possible inclusion in the 2020 Olympic Games.
Although waterskiing had been rejected in 2004, wakeboarding is apparently one of the most likely – with softball – to become an Olympic sport. The other candidates for the spot are baseball, squash, sport climbing, rollersports, karate and the martial art of wushu. All of them will be evaluated and the final decision will be made in 2013 by the IOC in Buenos Aires. The IWWF fully supports this possible addition to the 2020 Olympic Games and has created Wakeboard 2020 Vision to prepare the presentation with IOC.
This sport is expected to appeal to a younger crowd the same way snowboarding did when it was recently added to the Winter Olympics. However, some people expressed their concerns that wakeboarding could stop being a free expression sport if it was accepted by the IOC.

Chris will love this. He is becoming quite the wakeboarder behind our boat. He loves to cross the wakes back and forth just grinning!
